Do I know you? What is your story? What’s your direction?
Shall I ask or should I even mention.
Are you ok? Can you hear or even see?
You are here but your eyes say don’t speak to me

Come in and sit, try not to worry or fret
You are in safe hands; I’m a friend even though we’ve never met
Here is your work; take your time, read and understand
I promise I won’t judge you or make you feel bad.

It’s ok to be scared, to worry and feel fear
It’s all normal emotions, it’s ok to shed a tear.
You are not alone in this class, we are all in the same boat
Trying to learn, understand and keep ourselves afloat.

If you are not sure of what to do, if you are confused or blue
Just look at me and smile, and I will get to you soon.
I wish that you could see ‘you’ from my perspective
Illuminating and inquisitive, even though reluctant and deflective.

Despite your resistance, your hesitation to achieve
I will endeavour to guide you, mould you; in you, I will believe.
Though you try your best to deceive me, convince me you are bad
I will not lay down the gauntlet, not until our relationship is ironclad.

So let’s work together, united and as one
Show the world what you’re made of, the learning has just begun.
Take these steps together, facing all our worries and fears
Making footprints in the sand for others to follow for years.

I may only be your teacher, but there is one thing for sure
I will be here when you’re uncertain or till you’ve matured.
So I ask you once again, are you OK?
