The blissful sound of birds chirping

as they made shapes with their wings.

The sound of the wind as it whistled through the trees.

I will never forget it.

But then, like a plague, spreading through the night,

The sound of the very first tree slumping down into the dusty earth wakes me.

Then another.

And another.

The trees drop all through the dry land, with a sigh -  their last breath.

But the wind carries a sweet message as it whistles through the bush.

Save the trees…

This voice continues, whispering through the remaining tundra:

Save the trees…

Save the trees…

The trees breathe slowly, for the loss of their kind, in the dim glow of the moon.

The trees continue to cry for unheard help.

Save the trees.
