King of the river

My long tail hangs down into the stream,
Living the ultimate backyard dream.
Suddenly giant human boots go STOMP!
The bush track shakes like an earthquake.
Fear whispers to me to hold my breath,
Not a single sound do I dare to make.
I sit completely frozen like a stone,
Guarding my watery kingdom alone.
A big juicy cicada lands on a reed,
Thinking it is the king of the tree.
SNAP! My jaws crunch down like a trap,
And the noisy bug is history.
I scramble down the bank into the mud
With a heavy and powerful thud.
A hungry sea eagle swoops from the sky,
But I dive deep down into the cool blue.
I swim like a crocodile under the waves,
Leaving the bird with nothing to do.
I rest safely at the bottom of the creek,
Playing the best game of hide-and-seek.
